David
Villa de Columbia
by Alison

How difficult would
it be it start a new school where you didn't know anyone, couldn't speak
the language fluently, thousands of miles away from home? That's exactly
what David Villa did.
David is a foreign exchange student this year from
Colombia. He decided to come to the United States this year after
his own school was out to improve his English. David says that English
is needed for a university, which he hopes to attend.
He likes our school here, especially how
he can choose electives and move from class to class. In Colombia,
students stay in the same classroom and don't choose any of their classes.
When asked what subjects they studied, David gave
a list very similar to what we study here: math, physics, Spanish,
English, biology, and chemistry. David said they also take P.E. where
their games are also close to ours, such as soccer, basketball, tennis,
ping pong, and football, though he says he's not very good at the last one.
He also remarked that the classes here were easier, as they are taken (for
the most part) by choice.
In most aspects, David is like any teenager in the United States.
In his free time, he likes to play play station and computer games.
He also practices tennis in a club.
His favorite foods are empanadas, lasagna, and
pizza, though he says he doesn't like most American foods.
David says its good here, and he likes how friendly the
people are. He is enjoying his time here and is amazed how happy
everyone is.
