Hello Week
By Alison Law

If you were to have walked into the halls of Reedsport High School last week, you probably would have wondered what the heck was going on.  Students and staff dressed in crazy colors and patterns, bright Hawaiian prints, and red and black to show their school spirit and personality during Hello Week.
Monday was class color day, the classic dress up day.  Of course, the seniors won with the color blue.  The juniors wore orange, the sophomores were attired green, and the freshman bravely sported pink.  The individual winner of the day was Chuckie Branson, a sophomore.
Arguably the most dizzying array of clothing was worn on Tuesday.  Students and staff boldly mixed checks and stripes, florals and polka dots, and colors that definitely should not have been worn together.  In a major departure from most years, the staff won.  Juniors Aubrey Vaughn and Heather Leach tied for the best (or worst, depending on your view) outfits of the day.
On a rainy Wednesday, Hawaiian Day was just the thing to brighten the hallways.  Girls adorned their hair with big blossoms and leis were worn by many.  Sophomores were the brightest bunch of all.  Breezy Jacobs had the best individual attire.
Although real twins Jon and Evan Noxon, both juniors, won the Twin Day competition, you didn’t have to be a twin to dress like one. Walking through the school, some did a double take seeing students dressed in the same outfits.  The seniors beat out the other classes to won.
In preparation for the first home game of the year, Friday was Spirit Day.  Juniors Kati Dickson and Charlotte Ellisor had the best spirit of the students, looking as if they were ready to cheer on the team.  Once again, the seniors won the class competition.
According to Mrs. Tisler, ASB advisor, participation in Hello Week was down slightly. She said, “We had a lot of fun, but we would have liked more students to participate.” Mrs. Tisler also added that she was “very proud of the staff”, who dressed up significantly more than last year. To encourage more students to dress up, ASB is considering making a suggestion box for ideas of dress up days.

Meet Me at the Pole
by Michele Kirk

What is known as being “accepted” changes throughout the years.  Fifty years ago you wouldn’t have seen a single parent as often as you do now, or people walking around with tattoos and piercings on a normal basis.  Believe it or not, religion also used to play a major role in the school environment.
Beginning on Monday, September 12th, students from the Community Youth Group, The Zone, wore bracelets advertising See You at the Pole.  This gave them the opportunity to let others know about the event and for them to be invited as well.  These bracelets accounted for many of those who attended.
Sixty-four students and parents woke up earlier then normal to attend See You at the Pole on September 15th, at 7:00 a.m.  It wasn’t just this sixty-four students and parents who attended See You at the Pole on Wednesday but instead many people attended this event at different schools across the nation.  This was an organized event for all students who wanted to stand up for what they believed in and gather around their flagpole in front of their school to pray for their school, community, government, family, and everything else.  Not only did everybody pray in one huge circle but they also broke off into six different groups lead by a prayer leader and also had a group worship time.  This worship time was lead by guitarists Lisa Osekowsky, Spencer Mitchell, Daniel Plotz; and Sam Huskey led the vocals.
Afterwards, Pastor Terry Plotz of the Reedsport Forsquare Church provided doughnuts for everybody in attendance.
