Hello Week 2003!
by Alison Law

Hello Week is a time for everyone to get to know each other, while wearing fun and goofy outfits.
This year, ASB had some great ideas for the days of the week. Of course, the seniors exhibited superior school pride and had the most people dress up.

Tsalila
by Alison Law

Where can you go to learn about the Umqua Watershed, Native Americans, pioneers, and make a cool fish print?  Tsalila!
Tsalila is a yearly festival which celebrates the Umqua River and its inhabitants, from algae to the great salmon.
This year’s Tsalila was a success.  Many people from up and down the coast attended and tried out the exhibits.  Some sampled the delicious salmon dinners, where the salmon was cooked over a fire pit, like in the old days.
There were also several vendors on site selling everything that could possibly be related to the Umqua, including beads, bird houses, and t-shirts.
Many volunteers from the high school came to help out, so they could get extra credit or community service.
They helped at a number of exhibits including the salmon maze, fish printing, paper making, and the pioneer tent, where you could churn butter, pump water, and pan for gold.
The enterprising FBLA members even set up a booth to sell fish printed t-shirts.
Tsalila offers a fun and free educational experience that enables people to learn about the land that they live on.
If you didn’t make it this year, be sure to check it out next September!
