HC Dance Wraps Up Festivities
by Heather Leachby Michele Kirk Some people think that every high-schoolers weekend is full of nothing but sleep and wasteful video games, but last Saturday was not your normal Saturday; it was the end of Homecoming Week. It was "The Day" of the dance. Homecoming is an event that takes a lot of preparation but turns into a lot of celebration. Monday 11th-Friday 15th: "The Week Before"
The week before
homecoming always seems to go by in a blur. The girls rush
diligently doing their last minute accessory shopping while the shy
guys
finally get the guts to ask their dates. Between dress shopping,
nail appointments, homecoming floats, decorating for the jungle theme,
coronation, the bonfire, and of course school work, schedules seem to
always be jammed pack. One thing that appears on everybody's to do list is: be at the football game on Friday night. The homecoming dance would not be the same if people's school spirit wasn't pu mped up the
night before.Saturday 16th: "The Day" Alarm clocks rang surprisingly earlier then the normal Saturday and the hustle bustle began. People in the community began to see the boys with their vehicles at the car-wash and the girls with their hair all done up. Later on the flashes of cameras could have been mistaken for the paparazzi as parents oohed and aaahed at their kids and people began heading off for dinner. Finally, 8:00 p.m. appeared on the clock and couples began to meander into the Reedsport Jr/Sr High School, which was disguised by the sophomore class as "The Jungle". With a variety of music being played by the DJ, Wyatt Castaneda, people let loose and got their groove on. Pictures were being taken by Rochon's Photography while others spent some time taking candid shots of their own. As the night went on the cafeteria heated up, then the final song, "She Will be Loved" by Maroon 5, was played as the clock struck 11:00 p.m. Chase Landry said, "The dance this year was a lot better than last years. It wasn't because of the decorations or anything but everybody's attitudes were so much better." Afterwards people began to get into their cars and drive off into the night. Some went straight home while others partied the night away. Movie nights were held and parents were kept up while their children came straggling in at all hours, dead tired due to the very eventful night. Of course everybody did know that it would eventually end. Sunday 17th: "The Day After" Alarm clocks, who am I kidding, there were no alarm clocks! Waking up was definitely not on the agenda; the only thing that is now on the agenda is making plans for Prom. Candidate Forum At the candidate forum on October 18th in Pacific Auditorium one of the most common things heard was "time" or "times up," by Julie Huebner, that night's timekeeper.
The forum held candidates for various offices
and allowed the public to make a more informed decision about local
voting matters. Some of the offices represented were circuit
county judge, county clerk, mayor, senate, city council and many others. Each candidate had three minutes to speak their mind about their qualifications for the position. During this time most of the candidates chose not only to talk about the offices they'd held but also where they were originally from and their family. This event started at seven o'clock and ran until 9:30. During the two and a half hour forum, after the candidates were done with their personal accounts, the audience was allowed to question the candidates of their choice about the matters they found important. Questions ranged from the sewage plant to open city council meetings. Coronation by Brian Kruse Did you notice anything different on court this year? There were three more couples added to the agenda this year. In past years, there have only been three junior couples and four senior couples. This year the ASB officers added a freshman couple along with two sophomore couples. "Overall, the plans for homecoming court went smoothly," said Lisa Osekowsky, who was also in charge of decorations. The Grand Marshall’s were Mr. Keith Tymchuk
and his wife Jennifer along with their two daughters Bailey and
Blair. This years freshman couple was Mandy Foote with RJ Terra. Sophomore couples were Morgan Bunch with Justin Fulps and Nachaila Peterson with Ryan Anderson. The juniors on court were Princess Ashley Fulps with Buddy Phibbs, Deanne Huebner with Armando Herrera, Heather Leach with Chris Kaufmann. This years Senior couples were Princess Megan Henning with Prince Daniel Mast, Princess Mandi Schafer and Prince Casey Palermo, Princess Viktoria Schaaf and Prince Jesse Jackson, and Princess Dharmi Patel with Prince Andrew Merschel. Some highlights were a change in who could be eligible to make King and Queen. Only a senior couple could be eligible unlike past years where it could be a senior guy with a junior girl. This year's Queen was Dharmi Patel and the King was Jesse Jackson. Congratulations to the Homecoming Court of 2004! |
