Tradition
by Tyler Marler
What do you
know about tradition here at Reedsport High? During Homecoming we used
to always follow tradition. I’ve asked seniors and juniors what they
think about adding freshman and sophomores to Homecoming court this
year, and I got the same remark from most of them. “ I don’t think it’s
right that A.S.B is allowing the freshmen and sophomores to become part
of the Homecoming Court.”
For many years here at Reedsport High it’s only been seniors and juniors on court. Ever since the middle school has joined the high school, a lot of things have changed. “ I believe adding the sophomores and freshmen to Homecoming Court is worth a try. If it doesn’t work out we can always change it back to how it was,” said Mrs. Tisler. I also talked to a junior who is all for tradition and here is what he had to say, “I feel that there is no reason to change the tradition just because the school has changed. The underclassmen have to earn their right to be on court just like we had to do by enduring all those hours of school,” said junior Carter DuVal. “I think it is a good chance for us underclassmen to get involved in Homecoming more,” said an anonymous sophomore. If you feel that we should go on with tradition, then let the students and A.S.B know by sending letters to the online newspaper staff at www.rhsnews.org/letters.html. Make sure you explain why you feel we should go on with tradition here at Reedsport High. Just because other schools have switched over to this new system for Homecoming doesn’t mean we have to follow. Small Town
by Michele Kirk While walking through the halls it is almost on a daily basis that I hear somebody say that they hate living in a small town, but I disagree. Sometimes I do dislike the fact that I cannot go anywhere without turning around and seeing somebody that I know. Ultimately though, I would much rather know that somebody will be there rather than needing help and nobody being there. Not only is that a plus but smaller towns are so much more relaxed. It's nice to go to a big city but it's even nicer to come home to a slow-paced environment. That is how I come to the conclusion that people should think twice before complaining about living in a small town. |
