Thanksgiving
by Alison Law and Heather Leach

 Chase Landrey, Freshman
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

This year I am most thankful for my family.  After seeing the accident with Kyle and Andrew I realized how fast things can change.  Now I will try to spend more time with the rest of my family.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

This holiday season, I am thankful for my healthy family.  We've stayed safe and secure  over the years, that I am also thankful for.  I'm thankful that the ducks had their victory at the civil war game.  I have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

I am thankful for being with my family and having them with me for Thanksgiving.  This is a time to thank the pilgrims and the Indians for what they've done for us.  I love Thanksgiving because I get to see and chat with all of my family. That's what I'm thankful for.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

I am thankful that our family is going to have a nice meal on Thursday, especially since so many other people may not be as well off.  To have my family with me on such a special days makes me happy.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
I am most  thankful for my family. They give me lots of joy and hope for a brighter future. My college age kids are responsible young adults with and social concerned about world justice and peace. The younger children in my family are fun and alive. They get excited about small things and are full of hugs. I am most thankful for my wife who is always supportive and encourages me to grow and challenge myself to become a better human being.

From all the Reedsport Newspaper staff we would like to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

Students Visit the Blazers
by Alison Law

What can students learn from the Blazers, a professional basketball team with a bad boy image?  Quite a lot, according to the 40 students that visited Portland last Wednesday.    Members of FBLA, School-to-Work and other interested students went to the Rose Garden for the Blazers Career Day.  They learned about various careers available to them with a professional sports team.
The trip started bright and early at Circle Drive.  The students piled on the Braves Bus and made themselves comfortable.  There was a brief stop at the mall in Salem for lunch and a bathroom break, where students gazed in wonder at the wet snow falling out of the sky.
Once at the Rose Garden, students listened to professionals who worked with the Blazers.  They included the Vice President of Sponsorship Sales and Client Services, President of the Trailblazers, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Director of Event Services, Director of Fan Development, and the Executive Director of Communications.
Their talks covered their training, education, and job descriptions.  A question and answer session followed all the speakers, and there were trivia games for Blazers prizes.
After the speaking was over, the inspired students headed to the Lloyd Center for dinner.  Many used the Max train, Portland’s form of public transportation, for the first time.  It was an eye opening experience for some.
The Trailblazer game vs. the Miami Heat provided another interesting event.  Though not all the students were avid basketball fans, the game was very exciting.  The Blazers won, 94-93, in after a foul in the last second resulted in two free throws.
When the game finished, the students climbed back on the bus and drove back home to Reedsport.  They finally arrived home at two in the morning, most sleeping on the way.
