SWOCC Math Classes
by John Hoaglin

Want to earn college credit while also earning high school credit?  Want to pay only 10% of full cost?  Want to have a smooth transition from high school to college?
Then Southwestern Oregon Community College's Tech Prep/College High 2+2 Program is just for you.  In the 2+2 program you earn college credit while still in high school.  This cuts down on tuition fees and time spent taking classes.
2+2 program classes also count towards high school graduation.  However, only some classes are offered in the 2+2 program.  Typically the classes in this program are designed for juniors and seniors.  For example, here at Reedsport High you could take Advanced Math/College Algebra, a class for those who want a greater challenge in their math class.  Because this class is part of the 2+2 program it will count for credit in MTH111 College Algebra at Southwestern.  This is a four unit class!
College Algebra deals with the concepts and principles considered in Pre calculus.  Other courses that Reedsport High offers in the 2+2 program include Integrated Office Systems and Beginning Business/Technology Information. The teachers participating in the program are Mr. Zosel and Mr. Beach.  Anyone planning for college should look into this opportunity.  Talk to your counselor, Ms. Tibbles, for more information.

Cap & Gowns
by Brian Kruse

It is that much closer until the class of 2005 will be out of here.  During lunch on November 3rd during the Senior High lunch hour, Matt Brown from Jostens corporation was here to take orders from this years graduating class of 2005. This included all the announcements which were already designed along with tee-shirts and tassels.  There were many items to choose from to make this year even more special.
Jostens has been around for 26 at least years.  Many people believe that it has been around a lot longer with graduation and class ring orders.  The main reason why many people go through Jostens at Reedsport is because they have a large selection of items and do not require a down payment.
This year the prices were fairly reasonable with the cheapest cap and gown package being $27.50.  This package includes the cap, gown and cord.  There were many different packages available ranging up to $93.00 and the cheapest was at $27.50.
Ordering caps and gowns are hard decisions because there are so many different options and decisions.  Seniors have a lot of decisions and choices to make during this year.  Where they are going to go to college and applying for scholarships is very stressful.  Now that this step is over with they can start focusing on college bound stuff.

Step Right Up
By Heather Leach

Tuesday, November 9 Reedsport High held the annual Open House.  This is an opportunity for students to see their in progress grade and parents to question teachers.
The focus of this evening isn't for teachers to dish the dirt about students to their parents; it's for parents to meet the people shaping their childs future.  While some students stay with their parents to show them around and explain their actions in the class, others found
the refreshments in the library which include punch and cookies.
Also as an accidental side attraction for parents and students alike, the girls basketball team had started practice/tryouts that evening.
The festivities began at 6 pm and concluded at 8 pm.  Well the teachers were done any ways.  For students who were planning on playing a Winter Sport such as basketball, wrestling, swimming, or cheerleading, there was a meeting that started at 8 in the auditorium.
At this meeting Athletic Director, Mr. Akre went over ground rules and the code of conduct.  He spoke about playing multiple sports, sports fees, and eligibility.  After he was done talking the audience dispersed into smaller groups according to which sport they wanted to play.  Once in these groups coaches informed them of their rules and expectations, practice times, and everything else.  All of the Winter coaches were their except Swimming's Mr. Gibbons but Mr. Akre informed everyone that swimming practice would begin Monday, November 22 at 4 'o clock.
