Talent Show
by Michele KirkThe stars of Reedsport Jr/Sr High School got to strut their stuff and show off their talents on May 5th during the first annual talent show put on by ASB. Although the thought of the talent show proved to be slim at the beginning due
to a small turnout for the first tryouts,
things turned out o.k. Over 20 people participated in 12 acts
ranging from vocal talents and bands to juggling and joke telling. All participants, including the emcee, Matt Longworth, practiced throughout the week in order to prepare for the show which was held during first period where the entire student body watched them demonstrate their talents. Mrs. Tisler said, "The ASB had thought about this idea for a long time and was really happy about the outcome. We wanted to get people involved that didn't normally participate in other things and I feel that we really achieved that." The ASB hopes that the talent show will become an annual event for Reedsport Jr/Sr High School. A tape of the show may be purchased through Mrs. Tisler for $1.00 a piece in order to cover the costs of the tapes themselves. On To State
by Tyler Hague The
Reedsport Braves boys and girls golf teams are on to state! The golfers
managed
a second place finish at the District Golf Tournament, which was held a
Tokatee golf club 45 miles east of Springfield. The Braves lost the
team title by a meager four strokes to a tough Umpqua Valley christian
team.
This was the first two day tournament of the season for the boys, and their second day total surpassed their first day’s. Reedsport was led by Alan Wheeler’s 77-76, which was good enough for a third place individual preformance. Casey Palermo also fired two solid rounds tying him for seventh. Reedsport trailed by four strokes going into the second day and was ahead of third place McKenzie by four. The second day each team fired the same score to finish the tournament in the same position as the previous day. “We played a little under our capability, but we did manage a state birth, so hopefully we can take advantage of that opportunity,” said senior Tyler Hague. The girls also were able to claim second at district. The first day was held at Oak Hills and second was at Coos Country. The girls scores were unavailable. Abby Wicks said, "It was pouring down rain most of the time but we still pulled through and took second to qualify for state." The state articles will be in the next edition. |
