"Home of the Braves"

Stepping-Up
by Justin Gannon

With the end of their season in sight the Braves track team is stepping up their intensity in order to better themselves for districts.
On the night of April 19th the Braves hosted an eight team small schools meet, then hosted another four team meet on the 26th.  On the girls side of the team they aren’t great in numbers but are in performance.  Chelsea Tibbles had a personal best in the shot put with a put of 31’ 7” , which places her second place in league standings. Kati Dickson and Alisha Lacewell once again put forth their best efforts in the 1500m and the 3000m.
For the guys Jon Chan took first place in a meet for the first time this season in the 100m with a time of 11.52 seconds.  Justin Gannon brake the school record for the javelin with a throw of 159’ 7” and took second in that event.  He also took first in long jump and first in the triple jump on the night of the 26th.  In the discus Jason Blum and Carter DuVal took podium positions at both meets.

Another Win

The Braves left the Tigers with the sour taste of defeat in their mouths.  The Braves won by 4 runs with the final score of 6-2 on April the 19th.
One of the top hitters of the day was Nathan Morris who was also able to catch a pop fly and take back the bat for the Braves.
Nathan took the plate, he swung and the ball flew down center field, leaving the Tigers in a daze.  Two runners made it home from just that one hit.
Also, two days later, on the 22nd the Braves went to Gold Beach.  The Braves also left with a victory.  Their final score was 7-4.

Scores
April 26th at North Douglas 5-3.
April 29th at Myrtle Point 2-1.

Top Ten
by Christina Watson
As the Girls Varsity golf team took on seven different schools during the tournament at home, the Braves seemed to be one of the smaller schools,  but they showed that they had just as much skill as the others.
The Lady Braves turned out to be placing in the top ten and the team as a whole scored in fifth.  This seemed to be a great improvement from the beginning of the year.
“The girls are doing really great, I’m surprised a team of this size could beat out teams twice their size,” said Beth Moss, a former member of the Girls Golf team.
Also, four days later on the 18th, the JV Girls Golf team took on six different schools in Bandon.  Most of the girls scored above the top ten.  The girls as a group went home in seventh place.
Coach Wells was very proud of the girls, and wasn’t able to show just how much pride she had in the girls for playing their very best.   “This season is off to a great start,” said Beth, who is planning on joining again next year.

Boys Golf

Swing!  On Friday April 29, 2005, the JV boys played at an Invitational.  Their Coach, Jim Wills said, “The boys are showing steady improvement and are playing their best golf now that it is warmer and the courses are drier.”  Alan Wheeler got a PR shooting one over 73. Casey Palermo got the best 2A score in the state this year shooting a PR of 74. Jeff Kennedy shot 79, Alan Wheeler shot 75, and Tyler Hague shot 80.  Leaving the schools score at 308, the team got 1st place at the Mackenzie Invitational.  Jim Wells stated, “Hopefully the whole team will qualify to go to state this Thursday and Friday at Tokatee.  The top scorers for Reedsport  were by Casey Palermo, Alan Wheeler, and Jeff Kennedy. Reedsport had one medalist, Alan Wheeler.
