| Band and Choir Experience the Theater by Alison Law
After many long fundraising hours, the band and choir saved enough for
an
interesting outing. On March 19, they traveled to Eugene for a
day
of ice skating, shopping, and theater. The day began with a bus
ride
to Eugene, while the choir serenaded the band with a rousing version of
Ninety-nine Bottles of Beer on
the Wall. First on the agenda, after reaching Eugene, was
ice skating at
the Lane County Fairgrounds. This was the first time on the ice
for
many. There were lots of falls and collisions, although a few
students managed to stay of their feet. Marie Uhles was a
definite exception to the rule, as she gave most band and choir members
a basic lesson in swizzles, stroking, and stopping.
Lunch at Gateway Mall was next, followed by a long afternoon of
shopping.
A variety of stores enjoyed the students' business, from Claire's to
Target.
Several students also attended a movie. Gateway Mall also
provided
a place for dinner. For the musical and educational part of the trip, the band and choir attended a performance of The Music Man at the Hult Center. Though musicals are not most students the favorite type of performance, the band and choir members appreciated the talent of the cast. The finale definitely impressed many, as the whole cast played trombones to the most famous of the Music Man's songs, Seventy-six Trombones. After this long and eventful day, the students relaxed on the bus ride home. Baseball Team Travels to California for Tournament by Steven Stanley This year, the 2004 Varsity baseball team traveled to Sacramento, California to compete in a series of three games against Golden Sierra high school, Arganot high school, and Amador high school. Daniel Dickson and Russ Johnson pitched against Golden Sierra; Brett Butler pitched all game against Arganot, and Steven Stanley pitched 6 of 7 innings against Amador where Daniel Dickson came in to close to the road trip. "Winning 2 of 3 games was great, we had a lot of fun and we bonded really well, I can't wait till the future away games and be able to be with this excellent team." Coach Harrington said. |
