Mr. Akre
by Michele Kirk

As many people may not be able to imagine, Mr. Akre did have a life before teaching at Reedsport High School!
As a child, Akre was born and raised in Chicago where he also once dreamed of playing for the Chicago Cubs.  Little did he know at that time that he would attend Carelton College in North Field, Minnesota and teach every sort of English class, from sixth grade and up.
Mr. Akre has also taught classes from computers, pop culture, marketing, American culture, and film although his favorite class to teach is American literature.
Not only has Akre taught at Reedsport for more than 27 years, he also stepped in as Athletic Director in 2002.  After three years of this position Mr. Akre has chosen to retire.
Although Akre states that he has no idea of what he'll do in his spare time he will now have plenty of time to enjoy his hobbies which are football and fishing.  "I'll miss all of my friends at the school," said Akre, "but I won't miss having to deal with Saturday Schools."
As for Mr. Fulps stepping in as the new AD next year Mr. Akre's advice is to simply have a sense of humor and also stated that, "The least important word in the English language is I.  The most important is we."
