Nelly
by Shiela Cristie

Cornell  Hayes Jr., or better known as Nelly, was born in St. Louis. Later in his teen years he moved with his mother to University City. After the move Nelly’s hobbies became playing baseball, telling stories and writing rhymes.
Later during high school Nelly and some friends formed a Hip
Hop R&B group called the St. Lunatics. This group was made up of Cornell Wayne Jr. (Nelly), Big Lee, Kyjuan, Murphy Lee, City spud , Lil Wayne and Cedric the Entertainer.
After a few practices they gave up as a group and went solo. Being solo worked out the best for Nelly, because soon after the split Nelly got his first record deal from Universal and put out his first album “Country Grammar”, unfortunately this was not a very big hit, but Nelly was not disappointed. In the year of 2002 his second album “NellyVille” with his hit single “ Hott In Herr ” was was a big hit and topped most on the Billboard charts.
Later in 2004 he went even bigger with his double disc albums "Sweat & Suit".  He put Suit out first with its lead country artist Tim McGraw “Over and Over.”  This was another hit song.  After a couple of weeks later he released “Sweat” with Christina Aguilera which was not as big as Suit but it still continued to make the charts.
