Does the Government Care?
by Anonymous

I have one question for every citizen of the United States; does our government care for the little people?  Some would say yes, others would say no.  I'm with the latter.  Ok, so maybe originally the government cared for everyone, but now if you aren't high and mighty the only thing that matters is your vote.  I know most people don't believe me on this, but let me give you an example.  Say for instance Ashton and Demi get married and have kids, then they get a divorce.  Five thousand dollars of skipped child support later Ashton is arrested and has to pay-up.  Now my "father" owes over $100,000 of skipped child support and yet he doesn't get arrested.  Do yo think he's paying for not following a on court order?  No he's not!  So why would Ashton get arrested but not my "father"?  The government doesn't care for the little people.  What is more important to politicians, helping out the children of American and their families or getting money for their next campaign?  I think the answer is obvious.  We must strive to make the government for the people by the people or our nation will not survive.

Word From an Old Friend
by Elisha Jacob
Hey I think this is good what you people are doing for Reedsport.

Hey Elisha!  It's great to hear from you.  I really appreciate the compliment, it's hard to please a lot of people so it's really reassuring to hear good praise.

I Don't Think So
by Viktoria Shaaf

Who the heck is Victoria Bonnet? I thought I was the only Victoria....aside from that
I highly doubt she went through TWO high school shootings. And wasn't that dude that wrote the play from Washington, and he based it on the shooting in Springfield?  If he was from WA, how could he be her drama teacher? I think someone's full of BS.  No really, the play was good.  Could have been better, could have made a better impact, but in all honesty, I dot care. It got me out of class, and I'm not the kind of person that would let me emotions go haywire like that.  No matter how much I hate this town and its conformist losers. Ok im out of things to say.  peace easy...

Measure 30
by Kati Dickson

Money, a constant issue with everyone, everywhere, it runs many of our lives, makes many of our decisions, it decides much of what we do and how we feel, everyone wants more of it. Measure 30 could cut a lot of school funding. So many people think that if it does not pass everything will end up horrible for our schools. But Oregon schools spend a lot more money per student than almost anywhere in the nation. Haven't Oregonians been taxed enough? I think that the problem in Oregon is not that we are not getting taxed enough, but our legislature is not spending it wisely. Our legislature only meets once every two years, that is not enough to run a state. Advocates say that this is a temporary surge of income tax. Not true. Measure 30 is a compilation of 7 different taxes, many of them permanent. It not only raises income tax, but property tax and reduces and eliminates senior's ability to reduce medical cost and imposes a host of business tax, ultimately increasing job loss and increasing consumer cost. The legislature did not miss the chance to tax SUV owners or smokers either.
The tax-and-spend would lead you to believe that they need this money, what they don't tell you is that between 1989 and 2003 Oregon's general fund budget in creased 151%, that is faster than any other state. The proposed tax increase would permanently cement wasteful indulgence into Oregon's budget, which would cause more expensive government for future generations. This is why I think you should vote NO on measure 30.
