Nanobots, robots smaller than bacteria, seem to be in a distant
impossible future, but Xymos Technology, under contract with the US government, proves
everyone wrong. They have invented a way to build nanobots
fast and efficiently. Programmed like a swarm of ants, each bot has little intelligence, but together they are like the human brain. These nanobots are made in Xymos's fabrication building in the Nevada desert, and they have taken great care to keep the nanobots from escaping, however an entire swarm escapes the building through an air vent simply missing its filter. Thought to be harmless, they are overlooked until animals begin to disappear. The swarm, exposed to the environment, should have died off a long time before, but it has found a way to reproduce, by feeding. The swarm show signs of great intelligence and coordination that even the programmers did not believe was possible. This is the setting for Prey, by Michael Crichton. Like many of Crichton's novels, it has a scientific aspect but is not too complicated for the average person. The main characters are well developed and have their own personality. Chrichton keeps you guessing throughout and it is hard to put this book down. Prey is a great book for anyone and I would rate it a 9/10. Dashboard Confessional by Christina Watson Coming from Boca
Raton, Florida; Dashboard Confessional is an alternative rock
outfit that was started by singer/ songwriter Christopher Carrabba.
Christopher started out first with a solo effort with the release of The Swiss Army Romance but soon moved to forming bands, such as the previous bands Further Seems Forever, and Vacant Andies. Dashboard Confessional was the only band of his to make an influence on the music industry and break into the mainstream music scene. Both of Dashboard Confessional’s previous albums, Drowning EP and Places You Have Come to Fear the Most were released in early 2001. “Screaming Infidelities” was one of the songs that made this amazing band popular, this song also landed them a joint tour with The Weakerthans. Their second tour in the Vagrant Across America Tour also pushed them further into the spot light, proving that this punk group wasn't going to just fade away. This tour had such artists as Ikaline Trio and Hot Rod Circuit. Now this phenomenal band has released yet another great album, A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar, that was released on July 15th 2003. The tracks included on the CD are; Hands Down, Rapid Hope Loss, As Lovers Go, Carry This Picture, Bend and Not Break, Ghost of a Good Thing, Am I Missing, Morning Calls, Carve Your Heart Out Yourself, So Beautiful, Hey Girl, If You Can't Leave It Be, Might as Well Make It Bleed, Several Ways to Die Trying.
