Pep Assembly
by Alicia Ashcraft
Walking into the crowded gym while the
pep-band was playing was a wild event during friday’s pep
assembly. You were able to hear m
any different conversations
around you until Brittney Hansberry kicked off the assembley by singing
the National Anthem. People were so quite it seemed like nobody could
hold in their yelling. After Brittney sang, Coach Carey Jones introduced his wrestling team with swimming Coach Mark Gibbons then introducing the Reedsport Aqua Braves. Next came the cheerleaders. After their introductions they performed a short cheer for the entire student body that included part of an Outkast song. With the assistance of the cheerleaders as line judges, the wrestlers began to play a game called Slug Wars. This consisted of two wrestlers pulling a sleeping bag over their head and attempting to push each other off of the mat by pushing and shoving. The pep-assembly ended as quick as it began with the pep-assembly playing the school song. Students then filed out into the hallway to go on their way only to come back later that night and support the basketball teams as they faced their opponent, Oakland. Braves Beat the Oakers! The Varsity Boy Basketball team went against the Oakland Oakers on December 28th. They sent the Oakers back to their bus and on their way home with a loss of 65-68. ![]() The boys kept the score tight throughout the whole game making it a nail biter. Finally, in the last few minuets they hit the Oakers with all they had, which cost the Oakers to lose. “The Braves were all over the ball, sweat and all,” said Pep Band member, Beth Moss. Some other fans said that it was one of the most exciting games of the year. The Braves did a great job and both coaches agreed that they couldn’t have asked for a better team to play. Not only were they talented but both teams also had good sportsmanship. Oakland is one of Reedsport High School’s top competitiors. Also, they are of the most spirted schools on the west coast. As the cheerleaders say, “Braves Beat the Oakers,” and that they did. |
