by Christina Watson The Reedsport band
and choir groups held a concert on December 9th to
celebrate the coming of Christmas. The night started with the
Beginning band playing Jingle Bells. They also played Good King
Wenceslas, The Donkey Round, Dreydl, Dreydl, Surprise Symphony and A
Holiday sampler. The Junior High band came next, with the opening song of African Folk Trilogy. The junior highers Windey Dorsey and Tonni Willis also played Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Duncan Law lit up the night with his solo playing Let it Snow. The final song before the High school band was Casey Fraley and Brittany Smith playing Jingle Bell Rock. The
High school band was the finale of the band
section. The band played Prelude to Christmas, which was a
combination of popular Christmas songs, they also played Noel Suite,
and Little Drummer Boy.The Choir section began with a solo by Mrs. Murphy, The band and choir director. The Choir sang, A Song of Peace and Harmony, Ave Maria. Listen as the Snowflakes fall was sang by Jordan Moore, Brittnee Hansberry and Babette Soloranzo. The choir sang two other songs before Levi Moore’s solo rendition of You Raise Me Up. The two other songs were Let it Snow, and Long Ago on a Winters Morning. Mrs. Murphy’s solo was dedicated to the soldiers who didn’t make it home for the holidays and the families of those who miss them. Her beautiful version of I’ll Be Home For Christmas was a stunning way to begin the second half of the concert. On Friday December, 11 there was a pep assembly in the big gym. As students began to enter into the gym the band started to play. After all the students were in their seats, Kasey Wiggans sang the nation anthem. Cheerleaders then did a dance for the school. The dance was fast, upbeat and required lots of practice time to get it right. As soon as they were finished JV and Varsity boys and girls basketball teams were introduced. Next
came the activity part of the assembly. A fear
factor related food game was played, it was called The Scoop and Spit.
The object of the game was to have
a group of three people (in the same grade) take turns running to a
table and flipping over a card that was face down and reading what kind
of food was written on the card. Some food types were
marshmellows,
popcorn, creamed corn and pickles. Then, whatever food was written on the card they had to get as big of a mouth full as possible and run with it in their mouth to a different table and drop the food into a bucket. The team that had the most food in their bucket would win. All grades participated in the game. How they competed was grade vs. grade. When the game was over there was the cheer-stomp. Then the band played the school song to end the assembly. |
