Joshua Rushing
by Michele Kirk

The bell rang to start sixth period and the seniors and student council members piled into the Pacific Auditorium to listen to  speaker Joshua Rushing, a 14 year veteran of the Marine Corps.
"I didn't come here to change anyone's opinion, I came here to tell my story," said Rushing who spoke about his career as a Marine.
With it being his first time speaking to a high school audience, Rushing told of his experiences.  Rushing chose the military in order to pay for his college education on his own as well as to give back to his country.  Right out of high school and at the age of 17, Joshua started his military career, a life changing decision.
Not only was Rushing a lead spokesman to the Arab world during the invasion in Iraq, which was portrayed in the documentary "Control Room", but he also has been on TV and radio interviews such as ABC and CNN as well as print interviews on front pages and editorials of the LA Times.
"Even when it sucked and we suffered, I loved it!" reflected Joshua.  Although he loved it, he left after 14 years with neutral feelings when "Control Room" was filmed about him, as well as others, without his knowledge and he was told not to speak about it.
Joshua also spoke to the community on Saturday the 16th.  More information can be found at joshuarushing.com.
