Windy Weather
by Michele Kirk
The w
ind picked up as the
Reedsport Varsity Girls Golf team played nine
holes at Bandon Dunes on April 6th. Although Aubrey Vaughn was
the medalist for Reedsport, with 4th, the team took 5th out of the
overall eight teams attending. "We took a young team," commented
Coach Wells, "We took six members in total, two of them were
freshman." Things were on the brighter side when they visited Sandpines on the 11th where they received first place. It was all fun and games for the JV Girls Golf team when they visited Kentuck for a dual match against Marshfield. "It was so wet," said junior Lydia Tollefson, "You couldn't step anywhere without getting into water." Ten girls attended the match for Reedsport where they placed second. "The more they play, the better they get," said Mrs. Wells in hopes of a better match next time. Mid Season Slump
by Amanda Palmer
Although, the Umpqua Valley Christian won the Glide invitational
held at Oak Hills, the Reedsport Boys Varsity Golf came in second out
of six teams on the eighth of April. Allan Wheeler, having a
score of 85 on an eighteen hole course, was the medalist for the
Braves. Their Coach, Mr. Wells stated, “This year there was a mid
season slump with all of the rain, hopefully the weather will pick up
and so will out game.”
The Boys JV team traveled to Siuslaw for a dual match on April 11th. First time player, Mark Olson, led the Braves with a nine hole score of 49. Even with a score like this, Reedsport came in second. All Rain and Little Play
by Michele Kirk "Glide s a
very good team," commented the Varsity Baseball
Coach, Todd Harrington,
after the game against the Wild Cats on April 11th. This game was
rescheduled from a double header on April 9th to a single game.Although Trevor Gardner tied the game 1-1 with a home run, the Braves weren't able to keep up with Glide. Daniel Mast pitched three solid innings while Russ Johnson finished out the game. "Russ Johnson pitched better than the score indicated," said Harrington. The final score for Monday's game was 12-2. April 5th at Bandon 12-10 April 8th at Gold Beach 8-3 Errors = Loss
by Heather Leach"We had troubles pitching," Varsity Softball Coach Casey Howard said about her home game against Bandon. Five of Bandon's eight runs
were scored in the first inning of the game. Reedsport was able
to hold them to only three more runs during the rest of the game, but
only managed to score three runs of their own. The final score
was 3-8, Reedsport's loss.Reedsport had four hits to Bandon's one hit. That, coupled with Reedsport's two errors and only three earned runs made for an equation with one result, disaster. Coach Howard's only response about the game was, "We have the best manager in the league," referring to Daniel Roye, and, "Bandon should watch out the next time we see them." April 9th at Glide 3-15 Step by Step
by Heather Leach
"We're just learning, every game we learn a little bit more," Head JV
Coach Paul Stallard remarked after his game against the North
Bend
Bulldogs
on the April 11th. With the final score of the game 20-10
in
Reedsport's favor, the JV Braves are beginning to feel the success of
winning. Janelle Thorton, a freshman, started the game pitching. After a few innings she was replaced by sophomore, April Merrifield for the remainder of the game. Coach Stallard emphasized the work his pitchers had been doing in practice. While normally a coach will have his players hit off of a pitching machine, Mr. Stallard started a new activity. He has turned pitching into a contest during practice. Both pitchers, Janelle and April, pitch to a divided team. The goal of the contest is to throw ten strikes in a row before the other pitcher. This contest makes it easier for pitchers during a game because they'll have thrown under pressure during practice. Friday, 15th the Braves play Myrtle Point. Coach Stallard hopes to win but is much more interested in the girls learning. While her coach is satisfied with learning, catcher Lynsay Holden exclaimed, "We'll win!" April 5th vs Bandon 3-10.
