Sports Auction
by Michele Kirk

Starting at 5:30 p.m. approximately 200 people piled into the Reedsport Community Building for a night of fun on Saturday, April 2nd for the Reedsport High School Sport's Auction.
Waiting at the entrance was Mrs. Janet Boe and Mrs. Karen Tibbles selling 50/50 tickets, won by former Reedsport graduate Josh Hoile, which brought in $250.  As those who had previously purchased a $25.00 ticket mingled amongst each other and bidded on the silent auction items, Dubray's was busy catering the event while PBL and The Hot flash Chicks, otherwise known as "The Teacher's Band" entertained the crowd.
At 6:00, when things began to settle down, the bidders began being served by the coaches and eating at their elaborately decorated tables while Tom and Bob Huebner led the auction.  Some major items up for bid throughout the night were motel packages, a trip to Cabo, skybox tickets to an Oregon Ducks vs. Washington Husky's game, and most of all, three couples bought a dinner to be served by the Akre's, the Wells's and the Vander Kley's.  That item alone raised $3,000.
"It was really well attended," said Mrs. Tibbles.  From this event over $40,000 was raised and will be contributed towards next year's sports.
It seems as though, due to the budget, cuts are happening left and right.  It's the people like those that put on and attend events like the sports auction that keep Reedsport's Public school system alive.  Keep it up!
