Ducks Win by Default

by Emily Thornton
Civil, or not so civil? Beavers vs. Ducks, which one will be chosen to win during junior high hall wars.
Hall  wars are when th e seventh and eighth graders decorate each side of  the hall.  On the left side is the Beavers fans and on the other side is the Duck fans.
The students get  to decorate  the hall, but they can't tare down  or mess with any of their opponents decorations.
Ms. White said,"The best thing about hall wars is it's fun and interesting to watch the students debate, from a teachers point of view.
There are some catchy sayings like, Duck fly Beavers die. Some people are so committed to their team that they choose so they put signs up to show people what their opinion is.
Ms. White gave  her opinion on who she thought should win.  She said ,"The Beavers were with in inches form the goal line six times in one game and didn't score. She also gave her perspective on what she thought about the Ducks she said ,"Ducks deserve to win because they are more organized and play better as a team.
Some people don't care who wins because both teams are form Oregon.
"There should just be one team called the platypuses which is an animal with a duck bill and a beaver shaped body," said junior high student Kailey Lewis.
On Thursday the 16 to of November people who judged the halls said that Ducks win by default, because no one took the time to put any beaver decorations up.

Lets Play Some Ball!

by Aril Castle
The seventh and eighth grade RHS girls’ basketball teams played Coquille at home this Monday, November 13th. The seventh grade girls team had a new player join this week, Rebecca Schaf who played her first game against Coquille.
The seventh grade girls started out by scoring the first point of the game but found themselves trailing by two points in the final quarter.
It was a close game but Becca Moore stole the ball and made a lay in during the final seconds of the game to score the winning shot. The final score was Reedsport 25 and Coquille 24.
The eighth grade girls’ basketball team played after the seventh graders. Coquille won the jump to make an attempt at a basket only to have Reedsport get the rebound and score the first shot of the game.
The eighth grade girls maintained the lead the entire game, dominating the court. The eighth grade team showed improvement by decreasing the number of fouls compared to their previous game.
Renee Rochee, eighth grade team member said, “Coquille played a hard game, but we played harder.”
Eighth grade team member Cindy Steele said, “We played an awesome game. It was fun, we won! with a score of 41 to 14.

Talking With Teachers

by Amanda Palmer

Teachers were speaking with students’ parents on Thursday the 10th of November.
In order to have a conference the parents had to make an appointment. In most of the classes the students received extra credit for their parent or guardian coming in and talking to the teachers.
“Parents shouldn't have to take time out of their life just to go to a teachers conference, especially when I talk with my daughter's teachers on a regular basis,” said Shari Wall.
In Mrs. Hexinbaugh’s English class she gave 20 extra credit points to the students.

Last Home Game

by Delina Whidden

The seventh grade basketball game was down to 11 seconds when the score was 29-27, Reedsport in the lead. In the end, Reedsport kept that score and made fans proud.
During the last half of the game, fans and the 8th grade girls basketball team started yelling, “GO REEDSPORT”, every time Bandon tried to make a shot.
Members on the seventh grade team wore the yellow and green “Duck colored” jerseys on top of their uniform because their opponets jerseys were almost identical. Bandon's uniforms are black with a symbol on the shorts and white letters.
“I didn’t like wearing the duck jerseys because it was our home game, we should have been able to wear our own jerseys,” said seventh grader Rebekah Schaff.
There were three foul shots and Reedsport also made a lot of steals to get on the board. During half-time Mr. McCray went through box, triangle, and stack plays with the girls. They also got ready for their next two quarters of the game.
With coach on the sidelines telling them plays and what to do, the Braves made successful plays throughout the game.
The stands were filled with family and friends as Reedsport made score upon score. With the game ending at about 5:30, the girls victory was satisfying to all of them.
