Hello Week Welcomes Students to a New Year

by Mandy Foote
Starting the school year with a warm welcome ASB tries to make this year’s Hello Week one to remember.  Katie Corcoran the publicity director for ASB says “This year is off to a great start and I hope the whole year is just a good.” On the first day ASB bought fresh chocolate chip cookies to share with the school.  Each door was attended by a welcoming and bright smiled ASB member with a basket of cookies.  ASB members also showed their school spirit by participating in all the dress up days that week.
On Monday was patriotic day, Tuesday was hat day, Wednesday was tie die day, Thursday was dress for success, and finally Friday was spirit day. “ It seemed to me that this year there is a little more participation from the students which is great.  All though patriotic day was a little bit forgotten I think, but only because it was a Monday,”  Tia Smart commented. Even Mr. Gross participated in all the wacky days of Hello Week right along with the students. “ I loved wearing my hat on hat day I had a lot of fun!” Mr. Gross  said with a smile of his face.
Hello Week has been around in our school for years now as a tradition as Reedsport Junior/Senior High School. Another bid tradition is the rivalry between the classes to show that they are most enthused and have the most school spirit. So during 5th period every day ASB members would record in each class who was dressed for their class points and would announce the winning class for that day.  The scores are as followed. For hat day in first place was the seniors, then juniors were second, third was staff, then freshmen, and sophomores.  On spirit day staff was first and following is freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and last were seniors.  Dress for success day staff won then, seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.  Tie die day staff won again, then juniors, seniors, freshmen, and finally sophomores.  But unfortunately the scores for patriotic day were lost.  All these scores are going to be added up with other events, like before homecoming and other activities, to win a honors cup.
