"Home of the Braves"

Chicago
By Jill Ellis

The movie Chicago is set in the 1920’s. Queen Latifah, Cathrine Zeta -Jones, Richard Gere, and Renee Zellweger play the main characters in the movie. The movie is a musical about a girl named Roxie Heart (Zellweger) who shoots the guy she was sleeping with and gets sent to jail. She then meets Velma Kelly (Zeta-Jones), a famous jazz singer and dancer that got sent to jail because she killed her husband and sister because they were having an affair together. They immediately become enemies. Roxie then steals Velma’s lawyer, Billie Flynn (Gere), the town’s best lawyer who has never lost a case and that has a talent of turning ruthless criminals into local legends. But in Chicago there is only room for one legend. Roxie then goes through a dramatic change to stay in the headlines and to stay alive. She almost gets the spotlight stolen away from her when a spoiled heiress, Kitty (Lucy Liu), who shoots her husband and the two girls he was sleeping with. Roxie quickly gets the spotlight back after falling and claiming to be pregnant. This musical has some great musical numbers such as All That Jazz, When You’re Good to Mama, my favorite, Cell Block Tamgo and many more. This movie is rated PG-13. I give the movie four stars for its musical numbers and good acting.

April Fools Day
By Jill Ellis

April Fools Day or All Fools Day is a common holiday around the world. There is a type of April Fools Day holiday in almost every country, but do you know some of the legends that go along with this holiday? Well today I’m going to tell you some of them and some of the pranks some people have pull over the years.

There are many legends that go along with April Fools Day. Like the one in England that you can only pull pranks on people before 12:00 AM any thing after that time is considered bad luck. Also those who take offensively to the prank played on them are to attract bad luck. Some people insist that all pranks have to include a fish of at least something that has to do with fish. Not all supersessions about the day are bad. Guys that get fooled by a pretty girl are said to end up married to her, of at least go out with her at some time.

Here are some pranks that go along with April Fools Day that you can try yourself. There was a joke played by a news show that said spaghetti was harvested. They went so far as to make a movie of some women harvesting spaghetti. At one time a grade school teacher in Boston would come in early on April Fools Day to write the day’s assingment upside down i the black board. When her students would arrive, she would tell them she did it standing on the ceiling. A pratical that you could play on your friends and family is you take a rubber band and with the water off, place the rubber band around the spray nozzle that sits next to the faucet and make sure the rubber band is around the handle that turns the nozzle on. Then point the nozzle towards yourself. The next person to turn the water on will get sprayed with water.

I hope you’ve got some good ideas for next year in your head and have learned some things about April Fools Day. Have a good time!

Horror Movie
By Jill Ellis

Have you ever thought being in a horror movie? Well today I’m going to tell you about some horror movies and you can decide for your self. First, is the Ring. The movie is about a videotape that after people watch the tape they get a phone call that tells them they have seven days to live. A reporter, whose name is Rachel, hears about this and goes out and starts investigating things about the tape. After her and her son watch the tape it becomes a race to save their lives and they have to find out why the tape is killing people and how to stop it.

Next is Sephen King’s movie IT. In the town of Derry seven friends, who call themselves the losers club, have been noticing scary things that have been taking place. All the weird things that have been happening seems to have something to do with a clown named Pennywise. The club then decides to destroy Pennywise. 30 years later after Pennywise has been destroyed Mike Hanlon, the only member of the club to stay in Derry, suspects that pennywise has returned. He then calls back the losers club because of a promise that if pennywise should return they would come back to Derry to fight him once again. Amityville horror is based on a true story. A family moves into a new house in a town called Amityville. What they don’t know is that a year before six murders were committed. The people who died in the house were the De Feo family, two adults and four kids. The freaky thing about it is there were five kids and the eldest son is the one who committed the murders November 1974. No sooner are the Lutz family moved into the house they begin seeing and hearing horrible things. Georg, the husband, seems to be noticing these things most. A priest is called in to bless the house, but comes running out in horror and tells the wife Kathy “leave that house.” So the family has to decide if they want to stay and over come the evil or pack up and leave the terrifying house. So you decide! If you had to choose which one would it be? I know I would pick IT. Take the poll bellow and find out what movie most people would want to be in.

Good Luck!
