Athletes
of the Month
By
Jill Ellis

Every month there are two people chosen for athlete of the month. For athlete of the
month for February it was seniors Chris Kaufmann and Trista Willis. ”I was very
surprised and wondered why I got the award, but it made me very happy and proud of
my senior year in basketball.” Says Chris. Trista also commented “I was shocked
because I have never got it before or any other sport awards.”
Trista and Chris both got their award for athlete of the month in basketball. Coach
Hague recommended Chris and Trista was recommended by coach Allrad.
Chris has played basketball since third grade and Trista has played for 11 years. She
also has played street ball ever since she can remember.
When asked about who they feel should get next months award “I think Kelly Mc
Clain
should get next months award.” Trista started. Chris on the other hand thinks
“Were in
between sports now so it’s to hard to tell since no competition has gone on.Their
advices foe people who want to be athlete of the month are “Be a team player and
work as hard as you can on and off the playing field.” Says Chris. Trista also believes
“Just work hard and don’t even worry about it. Try to show people that you deserve it.”
District
Honor Choir
By
Sam Huskey
Each year students are chosen from the
southern coast of Oregon schools to participate in a performance. Honor
Band/Choir takes talented students from each school and has them
practice for a few weeks, then put on a show for their friends and
family.
Each student brings in a different way of
learning from their respective teachers. During the practices,
Mr. Graber brought a new technique of teaching, a more animated sense
of direction. Mr. Graber is the Music teacher for Marshfield high
school.
Eight schools participated this year in the
performance. During their final practice, a new teacher took over. Matt
Strausser brought a somewhat odd, yet fully enthusiastic approach to
the choir, while the music director from SOCC contributed to the Bands
practices. At 7pm the choir began the concert and were applauded
heartily in the end, as was the band in their awesome performance.
Sports

by Grace Smith
On April
8th, 2006 the fourth annual sports auction will be held at the
community building.
At 5:30 there will be social hour, then at
6:30 there will be dinner, and the auction will follow dinner. Dubray’s
On The Green is sponsoring the auction with support from Reedsport
District staff. All the proceeds from the auction will go to the
District Athletic fund.
Here is a short preview of some items that
will be auctioned this year:
one 1981 Volvo, one 1988 Jeep Cherokee, and one 1986 Ford Ranger, a
Reedsport Coffee House gift basket, one trip for four to Cabo San Lucas
donated by Scott Lewis, a home made fly fishing rod donated by Keith
Tymchuck, a one day fishing trip on the South Fork of the Coquille
River with Keith Tymchuck and Jim Akre, and one auto detailing
certificate with a value of $200 donated by Ace Nielson.
This is only a few of the items that will be

office. There are also some portfolios throughout the community with
all the auction items in them. One of them is at Reedsport Jr./Sr.
high’s front office, and another is at Dubray’s on The Green.
Please stop in and support your local sports fund.
Braves Bucks
by Grace Smith
The behavior in the junior high hall has been getting worse and worse.
“There are way to many fights, a lot of bad language and lots of
students are getting more disrespectful to teachers and their peers!”
said Ariel Castle when asked what she thought about the junior high
hall.
All the teachers are noticing this as well. They all
new that something had to be done, but no one knew what. Then one day
at a site counsel meeting while brain storming ideas, officer Smart
suggested to introduce Brave Bucks into the junior high.
Brave Bucks are little fake dollars that each
teacher will be giving out for good behavior. At the front office there
is the Brave Bucks jar. Each student can put as many Braves Bucks in as
they with for a chance to win some kind of prize. The more Brave Bucks
entered the better each students chances are of winning. So be on your
best behavior!
Miracle
Worker Auditions
The Miracle Worker by William Gibson will be the first production of Rising
Tide Live, the group formed to promote the performing arts in the community.
Performances are scheduled for June 9, 10 and 11 in Pacific Auditorium.
This is to be a community effort. To make it a success and attract a wide
audience, help is needed for set building, props, costumes, make-up, stage
management and promotion.
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 21 and 22,
and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, in the auditorium, 2605 Longwood
Drive, Reedsport.
Young Helen Keller, blind, deaf, and mute since infancy, is in danger of
being sent to an institution. Her inability to communicate has left her
frustrated and violent. In desperation, her parents seek help from the
Perkins Institute, which sends them a "half-blind Yankee schoolgirl" named
Annie Sullivan to tutor their daughter. Through persistence and love, and
sheer stubbornness, Annie breaks through Helen's walls of silence and
darkness and teaches her to communicate.
Arlee Olson will direct this play, which is set in the late 1800s. It calls
for six males, six females and a number of young people to play blind
students.
For more information on Rising Tide Live, the production or auditions, those
interested can call Olson at 271-3572 or Leah Hopkins at 271-7474, ext. 206.
