Oregon State Tournament
By Heather Parker

Held for men, women, and youth, USBC is holding the 2006 Oregon State Tournament.  For this tournament four of our RHS students will be attending this year.  Quilly Wilmes, Megan Mobbley, Heather Parker, and  Jessica Parker.  This tournament is being held at Town and Country lanes in Salem, starting in April and ending the first week of May.  The girls from Reedsport will be attending this tournament April 1st and 2nd.  This tournament was a result of an effort put forth from WIBC for a competive sport for kids.  They also put this on so kids could have a chance for scholorships and awards.
The girls from Reedsport are being set up for scholarships, instead of awards.  This tournament is one of many jumping off points for the America games.  To advance from the Oregon State Tournament, they will have to beat out their average that they sent in.  Then they will move on to the qualifying round for the Oregon State Games.  There a the qualfying round; the
y will have to be in the top fifty percent after bowling to move on.  Once at the State Games they will bowl three games and then they will then have to place first, second, or third for a medal. They then will move on to the America Games in Colorado to represent Oregon.  America State games is held every two years next year is the next one
In this tournament there is team comptition where we have four people play their own game and all of the scores are added up.  Then there is doubles where two people bowl regular games and both scores are added up into one.  Then there is singles where each person will bowl three games and will be a
dded up for their score.  Then, last but not least, there is all events were all the games they bowl are added up into one big score plus handicaps.  Looks likes lots of work.  Well, good luck girls!

Land Of The Grasshopper Play

By Jill Ellis

On Friday February 24 there was a play held at the auditorium called "In the Land of the Grasshopper Song". The play was about two proper Jersey girls, Maybel Reed played by Jacquelingds Dandeneau and Mary Arnold was played by Dawn Falto, who travels out west to California to have some excitement in their lives. They travel out west to help make the Indians civilized, and on their way to California they meet some interesting, and to them very weird people. They thought that Californians were weird because when they lived in Jersey they heard that the Californian people were crazy and also a bit uncivilized them selves. The stories were that the men were always drunk and gambling instead of working or doing something constructive. First they traveled on a train to Korbel. The mail rider took them to a point just near the river where they met up with a man who was also trying to civilize the Indians. The man's name was Kselke who was played by Oliver Steck. Oliver also played Hilding who was the man who put he girls up in a room when they got to Klamath. The girls got to Klamath and at first the people in Klamath didn't like their type. A friend that they made, Mart also played by Tim Cunninghanm, tells them that they should become Sunday school teachers. After being there a while the girls found out that the Indians wern't so bad after all. They wanted to tell their friends in Jersey about the indians, but Mart didn't want the girls to tell their friends because he felt that if they told that it would take the Indians voice away and it would take their voice away. The grasshopper song is the song that the Indians sing when the mysterious mist comes along and what the song would do is with would drive the mist away. The production manger was Trisha Sloan. The costume designer was Lynnie Horrigan and the prop and set designers were Dan Stockwell and Michel Foster. There was also another showing that following Saturday. “In the Land of the Grasshopper Song" was amazing. I thought the actors and actresses were great especially Tim Cunningham. They did great musically and dramatically.” commented Charity Donn Scherer
