Spring
Sports
By
Bebette Solorzano
It's the beginning of the Spring and the big yellow sun is out. It is
fresh outside which means its the best time for baseball, softball,
track, and golf.
Students wait all year long for the rain to go away
so they can pull out their bats, baseball gloves, and golf clubs. Try
outs for softball and baseball started on February 21 from 3:30-5:30 on
the softball field. “ I can't wait for softball to start! ” Says
sophomore Katie Corcoran.
Are you ready to put on your running shoes? Track is
coming up really fast so don't forget try outs are on Thursday February
23. This year track is offering discus, shot put, hurtles, long jump,
high jump, relay, javelin, and of course running.
Mr. and Mrs. Wells are the coaches for the RHS JV
and Varsity golf teams. This year their main goal is to recruit
freshman so they can be trained and experienced when they are on the
varsity teams. There will be a golf team meeting on February 21st. The
Golf season begins on February 27th at 4:00, at the Forest Hills golf
course.
If you have any questions concerning golf contact Mr. and Mrs. Wells at
(541) 271-1024.
Knowledge
Bowl
By
Cole Browning
James Madison said “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a
people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the
power which knowledge gives.” Led by Mr. Wiggans, the Knowledge
Bowl team had a delicious undefeated season last year. Armed with
knowledge and therefore power (because knowledge is power, or so I’ve
heard), the team has had a record of 3-1 this season, fresh off a 1st
place victory at Oakland on Tuesday. 12 people make up this
year’s team, including seniors Lydia Tollefson, Carter Duval
Alison Law, and Jon Chan.
In a
somewhat Jeopardy-esque format, two teams of four students answer
questions of various difficulties for points. At the end of
the round, the points are added up and the winner is determined.
Brianna Ekelund, one of the team’s sophomore members, says “Knowledge
Bowl is fun because it challenges your mental ability rather than
physical skill.”
If
your up for some educational entertainment (those two word
rarely appear in the same sentence these days, it seems), then come out
and cheer for knowledge!
