Sadie Hawkins
By Cole Browning

Friday of this week the Sadie Hawkins dance is happenin’ once again.  Based around country music and hay bales, the annual dance is both a fund-raiser for Mr. RHS as well as a social turnaround in that the girls ask the guys  to accompany them for the evening.
The story behind the dance is one of hilarity and of comedic importance.  The idea came from Al Capp’s comic strip Li’l Abner on November 15, 1937.  Sadie Hawkins was known to be one of the least attractive girls in her small town of Dogpatch.  Her father, Hekzebiah Hawkins was worried that his daughter was destined to be unwed for the rest of her life.  To remedy this, he declared her birthday an event in which the unmarried women chased the bachelors of the town on foot.  If a man were to be cought by a woman, the consequence would most inevitably be marriage.  Due to popular demand the wacky event became recognized by many learning institutions and has been translated into a dance at our school.
It’s the first dance of springtime and the girls have all the power for this one.  Not only that, but the whole Mr. RHS squad will be in attendence, because all proceeds go directly to the pageant proceedings.  As Dr. Bob Marley said, "The sun is shining and the weather is sweet, it makes you want to move your dancin’ feet.”

Junior Cheer Camp

By Cole Browning
On Monday, February 13th,  Jr. Cheer Campers boarded a bus to the high school in hopes of becoming the next Heather Leach or Bebette Solorzano.  The girls learn three cheers and a dance.  For a solid week, the little leaders practice, socialize, and practice some more.  No more than 30 little girls and one boy, Tregan Smart, turned out for the event.  Their debut is during Senior night for Varsity boys’ basketball on Thursday night.
“The girls are working really hard and I cant wait to see how the performance turns out,” says Annette Solorzano.  To pass the time, a jovial round of musical chairs was suggested and kicks and giggles were to be had by all.
From 3:30 to 5:30, the mini cheerleaders put on their gameface and bring it on as good, if not better, than the rest.
