Violence
in Society
By Sam Huskey
School violence is an issue that has always been a pressing subject to
everyone. 50 years ago not many people would have thought that it would
even be an issue in any public institution let alone a school. Yet as
the years have progressed and the ways students act change, more and
more things become a norm for teens. As their behavior changes they
start thinking in different ways.
Now as the students have changed, more and more we
see violence. Either antagonized from other students or just a
manifestation of things that have happened to them in their life
outside of school. What can be done in the wake of things that have
been done. We can teach respect to every single student and drill it
into their little heads, but who's to say that it even works. If the
students don’t take heed to what they have been taught, what was the
point in even mentioning it to them. Yet even if it doesn't work for
some of the students that decide not to pay attention, with hope we can
wonder if there are students out their who will pay heed to our words
and practice them daily. In the the end however, it all depends on the
person and how they view what they've been taught.
In a society that accepts such things as normal and
often encourages violence, how far are we truly away from what befell
Rome. When violence is seen everyday and we become so depraved that
nothing but what we want and feel we need matters. How long do we have?
Cell Phone usage
By Emily Thorton
Ring ring! You know
you want to pick up the phone, but you don't want to risk getting
caught and having you cell phone taken away . If you don't answer then
you wonder whether or not it was an emergency.
I know teachers that have cell phones that ring and ring and ring, It
gets annoying! But teachers don't like cell phones in class because of
the disturbance and text messaging for cheating and cameras. But
to write an article like this I must show both views and that means
yes the teachers point of view too. I found out from a teacher
Some where in Oregon, a kid with a cell phone camera took a picture of
a kid on the toilet and the parents pressed charges. There have also
been problems with kids calling or texting other kids in class. That
becomes a big disturbance for other kids also if someone's phone keeps
going off in class.
Kids also have a side too. There are some students who believe that
they should be aloud to pick it up if it is a family member because it
may be a family emergency, but from the side of the teachers
students may use that excuse even when friends call. For my opinion on
the crazy matter is that I believe kids should be aloud family calls
for emergencies only and if the teacher needs to check it let
them. My only thing is please make sure it is on vibrate it's rude when
I am trying to do something and a phone goes off!
