A Penny For Your Prom
by Cole Browning The prom is not far off and all
that change sitting in your drawer now
has a purpose. The high school needs it to fund the prom this
year because of the plain fact that the school district is truly
pinching pennies. This contest has been designed to get the
student body involved in raising funds to benefit itself, a feat so
rare in Reedsport, it is almost unheard of.Pennies count towards your class’ grand total, while any silver (dimes, quarters, nickels) or paper money counts against it. What's in it for me, you ask? A two liter bottle of a deliciously flavored fruit drink for each member of the winning class! That and the fact that all proceedings go to funding the Junior/ Senior prom. “What you really get is a wonderful prom!” says Mrs. Tisler with a smile. Scower your couches and ask Grandma to upend her purse because the penny drive has come to town! Starting Fresh by Bebette Solorezano Half way through the school year the first semester is over and there is no looking back. It is just done with. I hear tons of people down our hallway saying things such as "I need to get good grades and have a better attitude next semester," and "I plan to keep my grades up and stay on the wrestling team” says Derek Froggatt. Many people also say they want to keep up the good work. “I feel like I did good, but I could have done better,” says Lori Fraiser. This new semester not only has people wanting to do well academically, but also athletically. The spring sports that are offered to Reedsport jr./sr high this year are baseball, softball, golf and track. As we all have seen there are new additions to our school, two new cameras are located by the circle drive doors. Unfortunately we are also having our bathrooms closed down due to the lack of custodians and the conditions they have been in. |
