OMSI Comes to RHSBy Ariel Castle Tuesday January 24 the Junior High along with the 5th and 6th graders from Highland Elementary joined together for an assembly at Reedsport JR/SR
High auditorium. The assembly featured Eric from OMSI who demonstrated
different scientific experiments for the student body. He
selected volunteers from each grade to help conduct the experiments. He
did many different experiments. The first experiment was to place a
water balloon in a bucket of dry ice for a few minutes to see what
would happen to the water balloon. A volunteer was called from the audience and asked to take a hammer and smash the water balloon with it. When the hammer hit the balloon the contents inside was frozen, it had turned to ice. Volunteers also assisted in the creation of elephant toothpaste. OMSI had created it to solve Portland Zoo’s problem with their elephant’s teeth rotting. The show ended with a grand finale of exploding balloons. The first balloon made a huge noise and popped when a volunteer lit it on fire with a long stick, which acted like a match. The second balloon made a louder and much larger explosion when the volunteer lit it on fire. The third balloon made a huge explosion when lit that vibrated and shook the floor of the auditorium, ending the assembly. Mr. RHSBy Cole Browning The time is at hand for another Mr. RHS pageant and the stakes are high as thirteen of our very own senior gentleman gear up to compete for a good cause. Daniel Plotz, Armando Herrera, Skyler Squiglio, Tyson Smart, Buddy Phibbs, Cole Browning, Chris Kauffman, Mike Clemens, Tyler Marler, Garrett Spangle, Eric Chase, Allen Wheeler, and Carter Duvall will all compete in a competition that comprises of many elements: sportswear, formal wear, a question and answer segment, and a talent contest. Fund raisers, such as tip-a-waiter and the Sadie Hawkins dance held on February 17 the will also be held to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and the neo-natal intensive care unit at the Sacred Heart hospital. A very special organization that is designed to help premature babies: a worthy cause indeed. The main event will be held Thursday, April 13th at 7:30 pm in the Pacific Auditorium, but the boys, as well as the people behind the scenes, will be hard at work far before then. The boys will have to memorize a dance routine for which practices will be held on Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30. In addition, senior coordinators Allison Law and Ashley Fulps along with Junior coordinators Brittney Dickson and Morgan Bunch with Mrs. Tisler supervising the provisions, have taken on the enormous task of organizing the event in its entirety. The guys will also have the opportunity to select a senior girl to help them orchestrate their act and pick out their tux for the big night. A good time is guaranteed to be had by all as our local hotshots strut their stuff on stage, especially for the babies. So benefit our local school districts as well as a few premies and come to the Mr. RHS pageant Thursday, April 13th at 7:30 pm in the Pacific Auditorium. |
