Wrestling Tournament By Heather Leach The largest Reedsport Invitational wrestling meet since 1979, RHS hosted ten teams and 148 competitors on Saturday.Throughout the course of the twelve and a half hour day all Reedsport competitors were eventually eliminated except 275 lb heavyweights Evan Noxon and Spencer Mitchell. Evan wrestled three times previous to his face off with Spencer, winning them all by pins. The quickest his opponent fell was 16 seconds which was an improvement upon the 22 seconds from Reedsports previous meet. In comparison Spencer only had the chance to wrestle twice before. The last championship match of the meet Evan and Spencer walked confidently into the ring. With both wrestlers injured, Evan’s knee and Spencer’s hip, it made the match drag on with only one point scored. Spencer, in the second round scored an escape point, the score was 1-0, Spencer’s victory. After the meet Evan stated, “I did pretty good against Spencer but have some improvement left to do to beat him.” and that “I won’t be tired of him till I beat him.” referring to the fact that this meet was the fourth time these two had faced off and the fourth time Spencer has came out victorious. Gals ask the Guys By Jill Ellis Guys are you tired of having the nerve racking job of asking a girls to the dances, well at this dance you get a chance to watch the girls be embarrassed. On the 27th of January there will be a Sadie Hawkins dance held in the Reedsport Jr./Sr High cafeteria. For those of you that don't know the Sadie Hawkins dance is a dance where the girls ask the guys to hopefully be their date. Some information about the Sadie Hawkins dance, in 1937 the dance was started by a girl named Sadie Hawkins, (go figure), whose dad didn't want her to live with him for the rest of his life so he set up a Sadie Hawkins day where “unwed” women would chase after the bachelors with marriage on their mind. The events of Sadie Hawkins swept the nation life magazine reported over 200 colleges holding this event. The basis of Sadie Hawkins day is that women and girls take the invite of inviting the man or boy of their choice out on a date, usually to a dance attended by other bachelors and their aggressive dates. |
