R-E-S-P-E-C-T?By Bebette Solorzano Respect is a very strong word which kids our age get frightened by when an adult uses it as a threat towards something. Many of us believe that if someone is an adult they should be automatically "respected". Adults like saying that they are more superior to us because they are older. I in fact believe that they should not respected sometimes because they are immature. For example a adult could be thirty years old and addicted to drugs and they are just ruining their life. However there are adults who can earn a kids respect. Here at Reedsport Jr./Sr. High the faculty staff are just trying to help us out and help us be successful towards our future so maybe these adults deserve our respect?! My Thoughts on myspace.com By Vivian Barksdale Give me room here. I need “Myspace!” That is of course myspace.com. This is the hit web site that everyone is flocking to. Including many students in the Reedsport Jr./Sr. High school. It has also been asked around and noted that there are over 40 RHS students on this world wide web site, mypace.com. But what exactly do some of the students think of “myspace.com”? “Myspace is awesome quotes Renee Roche. “It’s better then all those other e-mail web sites because you have blogs, and people can check out your web page, which you can decorate, and you can have friends on a section of your page to.” This quote explains allot of myspace.com, but there is still much more. After you sign up on myspace and you must be over the age 13 they ask you a few questions about you so when people get on your page they'll know a little about you (remember not to put any information out that's personal). Some examples of questions they ask you are your hobbies, favorite movies, favorite books, and they also have and “about me” where all you do is write about yourself. There is also a section where you have a list of friends and you can get on to their page and leave each other messages. Like another “myspace” blogger, Amanda Palmer, who likes myspace because “It’s a fun new way to meet new people.” The Respect for the GovernedBy Cole Browning When leaders lie to those who are led, what kind of order can one expect to achieve? We at RHS have learned that the cameras that supposedly deterred harassment and bomb threats are merely dummies, put there to achieve a false sense of supervision. It is frustrating to me, as a student, to know that the administration was caught in a bold-faced lie after all the trouble the cameras have caused in student-faculty relations. It appears that budget cuts have rendered the administration helpless to watch our halls and govern students’ behavior; or so i was told. Apparently, those in charge just got lazy. Our commander-in-chief, Mr. Gross, preaches the importance of respect in the hallowed halls of Reedsport High. In my opinion, respect is mutual, not a one-sided ploy at obedience. If one expects to be respected, respect for the genelect of the student sect is an aspect to reflect, so to speak. If you have a comment of question regarding any editorial please feel free to reply. Opinions expressed are strictly those of the author, and do not necessarily reflect those of RHS News, Reedsport High School, or its students or staff. |
